You have the option. You guys may want to check. There is usually no upfront cost, but also your room isn`t reserved all night either, probably until like 5pm. When there is an upfront cost you`re basically paying for the first night in advance.
This happened last year to us in Richmond, we reserved our rooms and thought we were good. We showed up at about 10pm and our reservation had been given away. |

What probably happened is you reserved the room with a debit card instead of a credit card. I believe it`s standard hotel practice to put a hold for the cost of the room on your card when you book with a debit card.
