The State that wins the Nationals gets to send that team back PLUS its quota of 4 teams - thus the "extra" team.
The State that hosts the Nationals gets to name a HOST team PLUS its quota of 4 teams - thus the "extra" team.
If the same State, like VA this year, they send 6 (DC, Quota of 4, & Host).
The Consolation Champs get to come back the next year as a No. 5 seed and that state can also send its quota of 4 UNLESS the Consolation Champs finish higher then 5 in their State Championship - in which case they would take the higher seed - and the State would only send their quota of 4, last year`s Consolation Champs being one of the 4. |
