Nov 30, 2016 6:38 PM | So.... numbers are down. There`s no denying that. Some of the other commissioners and I have been kicking around ideas to grow the tournament, and wanted to get some feedback.
One big one is to have round robin play Saturday`s then elimination on Sundays, a 2 or three game guarantee, it may be a slight increase to entry fees, or we reduce the amount of trophies, or introduce a bar sponsor, but that would mean elimination of the hospitality room.
Would you guys go to a bar instead of the hospitality room? What about tshirts instead of individual trophies?
What about a point system for seeding? The more points you earn throughout the year, the higher your seed for the tourney? You`d get points by playing, the better you do, the more points. We would also sanction two or so tournaments that could get you points. This way we could also maintain a top ten or top 25 throughout the year, and it would be mathmatically based, so no local bias.
Changes are needed to pump some new blood into the tournament to hopefully get it back to where it was.
I`m looking for positive feedback, ideas, constructive criticism of the current system, ways to improve. What do you think? |

Double elim or pool play sounds great. How many leagues use those methods for their playoffs now? How`s that working out, I wonder? Poll them and see if they are experiencing any issues with those methods. |

Well for starters stop all this bull**** about "random draw". Everyone and there mamas know it ain`t no random draw. It should be just like they always did at the bark bowl where coaches are allowed to show up for the drawings.
Who are the powers to be too say who gets to play who. It`s set up every year so the same teams make the final 4. Always been like that always will be. And that`s real talk. Go ahead and deny that ****.
How you gonna say "random draw" but no one is allowed to witness it. Come on we ain`t dumb.
Shady ass stuff is what it is.
And yea go ahead and create a points system that way the power teams always draw the lesser teams in the first killing all the small teams like yall done for years. The rich get richer while the poor stay poor. That`s the vffa way.
You need to focus on parity more. You too blind to see the small teams can`t survive in the system. So they dismantle or the best teams steal there top players.
Here`s an idea. Make teams follow there league roster instead of this crap yall got. Aau basketball can do it with kids but yall can`t figure it out. Online rosters and you stick too that. Yall ain`t got a league tournament. This is a pickup showcase tournament. All you need is a bid and then it`s a Crapshoot. Bring whoever you want right? Yea that sounds real organized.
Real talk you just can`t handle the truth. But hey you have succeeded in 3 years all left will be prime time, firm and seven points. Good on making the brackets like always. Idiots. |
RANDOM ME!!
Dec 02, 2016 11:46 AM | subject: re: Ideas for states
"Random draw" fer sure! With that - a team could wind up "drawing" an opponent from their OWN league, traveling a couple of hours and both paying big bucks to play each other! That would go over over like a fart in a spacesuit! Understand Peninsula League has 12 teams in. 6 from spring and 6 from fall. 12 out of 36 in tourney total. What would be the odds of a "random draw" whacking those teams???? "Random Draw Dude better get a life! |

Is your brain really that small? Wow. Put the names in a hat. Pull them out. If two teams are from same league drop one and pull another out. Anymore brain surgery you can`t figure out?
And bitter? Naw just tired of the power controlled Bob Jacobs telling everyone who they play. Come on we all knew then the brackets came out you wouldn`t see firm vs prime time in round one. I would bet my Ken Griffey rookie card on dat. Not a damn thing random about any of it. Always set it up where the same four teams make the final Four. That`s the bob way. Like I said. Rich always get richer in the vffa tournament. Stomp on little teams and let the big dogs runs free to the ship. Not my fault you can`t handle real Talk.
And before you say I`m Bitter. I got a A title under my Belt. You got one? Doubt it. Don`t mean I can`t see why they losing teams.

ROSTER TALK
Dec 02, 2016 1:05 PM | subject: re: Ideas for states
"Vet" makes good point about legit rosters! Although document says coach AND league commish both certify it`s a true and accurate roster - we all know they often BOTH lie! There have been "pick-up" players since forever. Online roster sounds good - but will be circumvented. Problem is - short of an ID card check at field before each game - its hard to enforce any real "honesty" among the players and teams! And we all know what a "goatf---!" that would be, especially in foul weather. The desire to win by any means overrides any moral issue! Maybe that`s why they post the champs pics on the website so we can pick out the cheaters among them. Just saying! |

I am curious how many leagues are represented at the tournament and what percentage of their bids are being used. The commissioners from leagues who are potentially not using all their bids could probably shed more light on the reasons teams are turning them down. My personal belief is that money and lack of guaranteed games probably scares a lot of new/lower level teams away. I would be okay with a T-Shirts instead of individual trophies, if it meant we were able to guarantee even one additional game per team without seeing major increase in the cost. |

Double Elimination Would Help. I would also change the date and make the tournament after the holiday. |
Pool play
Dec 05, 2016 09:43 AM | subject: re: Ideas for states
Pool play is for toddlers in the summer. This is a win or go home tournament. Which is why the tournament is getting smaller because of all the "participation trophies" everyone wants. Win, or stay home I say. |

Dec 05, 2016 7:50 PM | subject: re: Ideas for states, pool play
Ok then stay home like a lot of other teams are deciding to do so I take it your team can be a champion after winning a pool of two, cause at the current rate of decline , there won`t be many teams left in just a few short years. Just click on past years and look at the numbers declining! |

Double elimination would do wonders to drive more teams not this tournament or at the very least double elimination for any team that doesn`t get a first round bye and comes in to play a 8 or 9:30 game should be allowed a loss. |

At this state tournament, I meant to say.... so yes double elimination for the early first round games at a minimum. |
