Dec 11, 2013 1:21 PM | Curious, why don`t we actually play on a 100 yard field? All the turf fields up here in Fairfax are 100 yards. It seems silly for states to only be 80 yards. |
???

I know it`s always been 80. My question is why can`t it be 100? It just makes more sense. I`m not complaining. But when you have a 100 yard field, why mark of an 80 yard field. It`s silly. Then when a team attempts to FGs, you gotta move the ball. Then if they miss, you gotta move the ball. It`s just silly. |

this is actually the most constructive post on this entire board. This is a good question. Can we get a commissioner to weigh in and explain why we can`t switch to 100 yards? |
1 reason
Dec 11, 2013 2:04 PM | subject: re: 80 yards?
The first downs are 20 40 20 which is uniform if 100 yard field wont work as nice. I guess you could do first downs 20,40,40,20 and it would work. |
^ WTF
Dec 11, 2013 2:05 PM | subject: re: 80 yards?
maybe your math is different than min, but 100 is divisible by 20. So there is no problems with first downs. |
I fixed

I fixed my first statement and said 20,40,40,20 could work |

I can shed some light on why the VFFA plays on an 80 yard field.
The reason is because of the goalposts and potential injury/liability.
Having a fixed 3" steel pipe sticking out of the endzone is a severe concussion and facial fracture waiting to happen. There are many fields with goose-neck goalposts that would solve the problem, but not all fields have them, so in a tournament such as this, you have to standardize rules.
Until the potential injury (and accompanying lawsuit) issue is addressed with standardized equipment I dont think the VFFA as a whole will adopt the 100 yard field. Until then, it is up to the individual commissioners as to how to arrange their fields at home. |

Agreed. The 20,40,20 reason would be the most logistic thing in my mind. If it was 100 yards im sure there are other variables that would factor in. But bottom line would be the 1st downs. Could that be easily altered of course. But 80yards has been working thus far.. |

I also thought signing a waiver would not hold those in charge responsible, but if everyone else plays 80, keep it the same. |

Dec 11, 2013 3:27 PM | subject: re: 80 yards?
Technically we do sign waivers smart @$$
We can`t sue them if we get hurt on these fields smart guy;
Higher scores on the 80 yard fields, more possessions too; I don`t care BC it`s still flag no matter how u chop it up |
