2:16 PM | For some reason I can’t post to the tournament page so since most teams check this I guess this is the next best thing.
Back for a third straight year by popular demand, it’s your 2013 Bark Bowl Power Rankings-
16- Gold Rush- They are a C league team from the 703. Thanks for the donation to the Humane Society. These guys joined up to get the t-shirt. Luckily for them they somehow get a decent matchup in round 1 vs Badboyz. Don`t see them winning anything though. Enjoy the shirts guys!
15- Bodysnatchers- These guys made it to the B State Finals last year and lost, but looked good. Are they ready to face the A teams in this tournament? Not this year. They will be 0-2. They start out vs Boogie Monsters and then, after they lose that game, they get the loser of Firm vs TC. Short day, so luckly they are from the area.
14- N O V A FFL- This is a newer team that has only played together a few times so they will need to establish some sort of chemistry early on in order to drive them forward. First round matchup puts them against a team that they are very familiar with, 7pt Spread, so they could benefit from knowing how they operate. Still a tough draw for a first time team, but if they can pull the upset they could have a good day out there.
13- Herbalife- The unknown team gets placed above 2 others? Not sure who they have or what they look like. Some say they are semi-pro guys from some team thinking they can play flag. In that case, they prob have a little talent, but not very organized for the flag game. They get to play a solid team in the first round so they will get tested early. If they win they may go far, but if they lose they will prob go 0-2.
12- Badboyz- They have not played in a league together for about a year so not sure they will be in football shape to last this tournament. They are dangerous and use trickery to get by, but in the end they will not have enough. First round vs Gold Rush is the best thing that could have happened to them because they get a warm up game before facing either 7pt or N O V A FFL.
11- Showtime-Winch- Last year they played well, but faced fairly weak teams. After that they went on to the fall season in Fairfax and dropped a goose egg in the W column. This year they get the unknown Herbalife team out of the gate and not sure how that will go. But I don’t see them getting more than 3 games this year.
10- O&P(R&B)- Since last years embarrassing Bark Bowl showing, they have had 2 finals appearances and 1 title out in the Harrisonburg league. What does that mean since the competition in Hburg is not that great? Not sure, but expect these guys to come in confident and looking to knock off a power house team. They get Show-Winch first up and maybe Soldier in the 2nd round so they will get the opportunity to see if they can make up for last years showing. I can see them getting at least 3 games out there.
09- W.E.W.E (Dynasty)- The reigning Harrisonburg League champs come back this year in hopes to avoid the 1-2 repeat from last year. Not sure it will happen as they get a tough first 2 games (opener vs Da Unit), no matter how they come out of the first round. At best 4 games for these guys, but it could be 0-2 for them this year.
08- Da Unit- Last year they lost in an OT thriller vs Soldier last year. They have had a good Fall/Spring season down south and have a solid defense. Look for them to cause some problems up front for opposing OL`s cause they have a great rush. First game is vs W.E.W.E. in what I think is one of the most interesting first round matchups.
07- Boogiemosters- This team could be a team capable of upsetting some of the more well known teams. Comin in off a poor mediocre Central Virginia Football season, they turned it on in the 757 tournament a few weeks back and made it to the finals against Firm. These guys appear to be confident and ready to prove they belong in the ranks of the top A teams in the state. They have some strong players and get a favorable matchup in game one vs Bodysnatchers out the gate. After that it will be either TC or Firm so they better not lose that first game, or it could be 0-2 and a quite ride home.
06- Soldier- Typically shows up to play for this tournament. They beat 7pt in the first round last year and made it to the finals the year prior, so they can beat anyone in front of them. They are a physical team with a good defense that will cause turnovers. Lost to GameFace in the first round of states and not sure what they did in the spring, but don’t let that stop you from thinking these guys won’t get around 4 games Sunday. They are just 2 years removed from a Bark Bowl finals appearance. They get the unknown Herbalife up first so I will pick them to advance and be around a while.
05- 7pt Spread- It was another tough fall/spring seasons for them in Fairfax so many are not hyped on them, but as a proven tournament performer and a potential good first round matchup, they look to go far once again. They have played in the Bark Bowl 3 times and have been able to last at least 4 games each year, to include winning it all out of the losers bracket last year. First round matchup is vs their N O V A FFL counterparts who know their game so they need to avoid the "trap game" in the first round. Last year they stumbled out of the blocks vs Soldier and I am sure they don’t want to go through the losers bracket again.
04- Triple Crown- They decided to skip last years Bark Bowl and went on to win the Fairfax A League in the Fall, but their reign as the most feared in 703 is slowing down. They have lost 3/4 games to GameFace, but still handle teams like 7pt with ease. No doubt they are battle tested and the most experienced 703 team, but they have a tough first draw against Firm. They are proven winners and can easily be the one walking home with the trophy once again, but this last year has seen them lose some depth which may hurt them in this long tournament. QB is smart and athletic and forces defenses sit back on their heels while their defense is quick and pulls flags well. Expect them to be around until the afternoon for sure.
03- AmFamFit- These guys are a solid threat to make it to make it to the finals. They made it to the A League State Finals last year and have only lost 6 league games in the past 12 months. Their first time up to the Bark Bowl will pose a challenge for a bunch of teams. With their strong armed QB who loves to air it out you will see defences on their heels back pedaling before the ball is snapped. First game vs GameFace, and its gonna be one to watch. Tom better have that camera there to capture the game. The winner of that game could/should make it to the finals from that side of the bracket. The other will have to fight back from the losers side.
02- GameFace/Stone Cold- Fairfax A spring league champs/Summer Champs they are a top tier team from 703. Only setback is a that they did drop a game to 7pt a few weeks back in another tournament, so they will need to regroup from that and get ready for a tough first round matchup vs title contender, AmFamFit. They have a very accurate QB and a solid WR to throw to which makes them a dangerous team to face. Problem is, they will have to get by AmFam in the first round to avoid the long way around to the finals.
01- Firm- Disappointed last years tournament and are looking to get back to that championship game. Been there 3 of the last 4 times and have won it 2 of those times. Coming off a National Championship year and another Tidewater League Title they are rolling right now. They get their 703 rival, Triple Crown in game one and may get a shot at redemption against AmFam in this tournament so look for them to come out swinging.

soliders didnt show up, that was surprising. 2013 bark bowl champs sponsored by herbalife, did just that became the 2013 bark bowl champs aka PRIMETIME and they looked very dominate the whole tourney. |
