vffa has gone downhill fast. been rolling for few years but its about at the bottom. doeasnt matter about facebook. you still have a web site that`s never updated. still has hotel information from last year. teams declining in numbers. never listen to our opinions on how to improve the organization and this is result. a few changes could`ve been made years ago that were suggested and this would be greatest flag football organization in the us. ideas that were suggested like 2004: instead of having the joke nationals, have 3 regional tournaments amongst those qualified for "states". tidewater, Richmond, and nova (to include 540 leagues like Harrisonburg). top half of leagues get to stay home in their region to play, bottom half travel to other locales. top 4 (A and B) from each tournament advance to states following weekend for DOUBLE ELIMINATION, which can easily be done with 12 teams in A and 12 in B for a Saturday and sunday. something like this is how you get the number and interest back up. and spare me the travel for 2 straight weekends excuse. only the top teams who advance have to do it and if they advance, I promise you they`ll travel.

Y`all wack. I have never been on a team to make it to a final. But I understand what win or go home means. And I love/cherish the intensity. And that`s the excitement of this tourney. So bring your A game or go find a Coed league to play in.

Make it a double elimination tourney with guaranteed games and it will improve and guys won`t be playing on two teams or switching to another team when they are one and done.
SOMETHING ELSE??

DUE TO MUCH LEAGUE CONSOLIDATION IN TIDEWATER, RICHMOND, FAIRFAX, AND HARRISONBURG THE NUMBER OF LEAGUES AS VFFA MEMBERS HAS DECLINED FROM A HIGH OF 38 LEAGUES IN 2008 TO 18 THIS YEAR. THERE ONCE WERE FOUR LEAGUES IN RICHMOND - NOW BASICALLY THERE IS ONE YEAR-ROUND LEAGUE. THERE WERE TEN LEAGUES IN FAIRFAX AND NOW ONLY FIVE REGISTERED IN 2016. NOT SURE WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THAT! BUT, WITH FEWER LEAGUES, THERE WILL BE FEWER TEAMS AT STATES. AND, FOR CURRENT MEMBER LEAGUES ONLY SEND ONE OR TWO TEAMS AT MOST WHEN THEY CAN SEND UP TO FIVE!

double elimination with 2 guaranteed games on saturdays, roster check with ID, 100 yard football fields..whats this non sense of 80 yards?? fields are too short, 1 first down then you`re either in the redzone or FG territory. No first downs equal touchdown no more. Make it fair, make it competitive.

Roster check cool! Give me a blank roster, I`ll hand pick 20 to sign it AND get them to show up at the field with their ID`s! Now What!

Let`s go with a bigger field - then drop offs from 4 to 3 to save money! Make it tougher to cover the game - but, that`s cool too. Need to blame someone for the loss.

Not only that - put the players sans equipment - closer to those "soft" posts!!!! Increases liability on organizers for injuries.

Roster checks would be a good thing. My selected players will sign the roster as well as bring identification to the field.

A bigger field would be nice. We may have to switch from 4 refs to 3, but this will save us money. It will be more difficult for 3 refs to cover a larger field but we shouldn`t be blaming refs for a loss anyways.

We could consider soft goal posts to reduce injuries and liabilities to the VFFA.

90% of the team just hand picks 20 selected to sign a roster regardless.

who said you need more refs? The width of the field is the same. You get a 4th ref for what? to stand at the goal line tickling his balls? like i said, the width of the field is the same so no need to hire an extra ref.

ID statement if going off what I`ve read, players jumping team to team. That solves it, get a roster check and keep the players from being goons.

It`s thinking logic, not financial wise. Money is/should stay the same. So stay in bounds, and bump the fields 10 yards each way to make it more competitive..unless you don`t want more compt or ground to cover.

it`s the length of the field I`d like more to, a real football field esp for states..this aint coed lol. Not the width-side line to side line stays the same..make sure you comprehend that.

Player is on three rosters! All three in tourney (A and/or B). As long as teams don`t play at SAME time - he can play on all three - as long as he brings ID and remembers to put on the "correct" jersey for that game!
DETAILS - DETAILS-DETAILS

Who does roster check? When? Take time from game? Schedule games further apart? Fewer games per field per day? If officials - pay them extra? Bad weather - wind rain snow? For every game or just first? What if player forgets to bring ID to field? What penalty for team - if any - for player caught by roster check? Probably lots more details to work out.

hope they make teams keep the same rosters that they use in league play. This will make competition fair and stop guys from creating stacked teams or putting all the best players from one LEAGUE on a team or having guys play in A and then B in the same day or better yet - have team change their name and drop to B to get a trophy. States were fun when teams played team ball instead of pickup. This pickup **** has ruined states. It is almost as laughable as Nationals !

it take 3 minutes to check IDs..theres 3 refs, 2 teams..do the math.

everything stays the same-just make sure the roster is checked within 5 minutes of the first whistle.

don`t have to put fewer games or shorter times or anything. It`s a simple roster check..it`s not science lol.

idk why people tend to over think simple solutions...

To make these tourneys more fair, yeah I`ll do it. Don`t need a degree for it, do I?

It`s a simple resolution to a lot of peoples thoughts, from what I`ve read on this site and to those who I`ve spoke to in person.

Like I`ve said before, it`s easy and simple..no need to over think it with your simple minded self lmao

if u didn`t get it-roster check. have 1 ref check home team, have another ref check away team. have the 3rd ref to a coin flip. By the time that`s decided, the roster check will be completed..how long does it take to check an ID and find that name on the roster turned in???

BOOM, mind blown.

Thank goodness we got that straight. Mr. yo is going to make sure the 50 or so rosters and the 50 or so teams match up together on the six (or more)"scattered" fields during the tournament regardless of weather conditions. And then, as teams advance to other fields, Mr. yo will be bringing those rosters along to each field to match with arriving teams. Mr.yo must be an octopus!

it`s called having a committee jackass lmao. Not my duty, vffa`s duty. I`m just throwing out ideas that can easily be installed.

Im sure refs have cell phones, have them have the rosters..

i dont know how u cannot understand this..clearly you`re a players who hops left and right therefore disagrees with a roster check. smooth criminal out here, i see you lol.

nothing changes..just install a roster check by the refs....mind is completely blown, fml i dont did it again.

Teams usually play on the same fields during the day , so the rosters can be kept at the field. VFFA could provide field supervisors to check rosters and such. If not - the head referee at each field could oversee things . It would not and should not fall on one person. Like YO said - committee.

First Mr. yo says he`ll do it - he says "yeah I`ll do it." Then, after giving it a little though - he says, "Not my duty, vffa`s duty." Guess it`s a fact - all things are easy for those that don`t have to do them! Perhaps Mr. yo and Mr. true will serve as "Vffa Roster Checking Committee" to oversee activity.

HOW `BOUT `DEM ROSTERS!

Jan 16, 2017

subject: re: States In General

OK! So we get rosters checked at the field and if it can be done effectively - will probably stop some players from jumping teams at the tourney itself. However, suppose a player is actually on two (2) rosters. Won`t he check out OK? How do we stop teams from loading up rosters being filled out just before tourney? Do we need a automated league roster check system? What about players on spring and fall teams - same league - different league? How to resolve? Someone needs to really think this through. How `bout you Yo? Any words of wisdom????

I am of the opinion that the person should have played on the team either in the Fall or Spring. We all know that everyone has a life outside of flag and sometimes cant commit to a season. I think they should have played at least a minimum of 2 games in a fall or spring league for that said team. The commish of that league needs to verify the submitted roster because they have to sign the roster in order to submit it to the state anyway. Then either a state rep or ref at that field should verify with a photo ID. They can do that every game or be given something like one of those wristbands to wear or something like that. If it is broken during the game the refs will give him another at the end of the game. If someone comes to the next game not wearing a wristband then they will only have to check a very limited amount the remaining games.

I don`t think there is a good way to cut down on people jumping because it could be two different teams from different parts of the state.

I am sure someone will find flaws in this but there at flaws in every thought process. Just look at congress.

If I was commish, I`d have the roster up online 2 days prior to the tourney. I`d also check myself if I see a name on two different teams. It`s really not that hard, I understand everything can`t be perfect. All in all, I think the commissioner needs to do it`s job or let somebody else do it. Especially if players/teams would like to take it serious or be taken seriously.

Just double check the work in elementary school

Yo for Commish! He got it down pat, fer sho`. So simple - a baby could do it, or at least an elementary school kid! Want 40 to 50 rosters up online in 2 days so he can check names. Wonder if Bill Bozo on Team A`s roster is the same Bill Bozo that`s on Team X`s roster. And if it is - what do you do? Make both ineligible? Make coaches ineligible? Make teams ineligible? Make leagues ineligible?
